Fire pillows, also known as in tumescent pillows, expand and swell when exposed to heat, thus creating a barrier which stops the spread of fire. They’re filled with intumescent additives and organic fillers within a reinforced waterproof glass cloth bag.

When operating temperatures are reached in a fire the contents of the FPC Intumescent Pillow stick together and start to expand so closing the small gaps and crevices around the penetration, until they harden to form a smoke and flame tight mass.
Our intumescent fire pillows are easy to install, as well as remove. This makes them an ideal solution when a temporary fire stopping required around cables.

When packed together as directed the FPC Intumescent Pillows will provide up to four hours fire protection.
For wall penetrations lay a single width of FPC Intumescent Pillows, overlapping at the edges, and build up a tight barrier of pillows around each penetration until the opening is firmly packed.
For floor penetrations lay four layers of pillows on or within a 50mm square steel mesh tray using the above procedure and cover with further framework of steel, mesh stay will require fixing to the main floor using non-combustible fixings.

Our FPC fire pillows can be installed by the owner – simply place the pillows into position filling the gap or aperture that needs protecting. If you are placing fire pillows for floor penetrations, then lay the pillows on a 50mm square steel mesh tray and overlap the pillows at the edges, and proceed to cover them with a further framework of steel. The mesh tray will need to be fixed to the main floor using non-combustible fixings.
