Types of fire pillows that we offer
Fire pillows are fire protection devices that are designed to seal gaps and penetrations in fire-rated walls, floors and ceilings. Additionally, they are utilised for not only preventing the spread of fire but also smoke and other toxic gasses through openings in pipes, ducts, cables and electrical wires.
Our fire pillows are made from several materials encased in a fibreglass cover, including mineral fibres, non-combustible agents, intumescent material and other fire-retardant additives. These materials work together by expanding when exposed to high temperatures, effectively creating a barrier that seals the opening and prevents the spread of fire and smoke. Our fire pillows are versatile and can be used in many different areas to help protect against the spread of fire and smoke for up to 4 hours.
We supply fire pillows in various sizes ranging from 300 x 50 x 35 mm to 300 x 200 x 35 mm.
Installation process for our fire pillows
Our FPC fire pillows can be installed by the owner – simply place the pillows into position filling the gap or aperture that needs protecting. If you are placing fire pillows for floor penetrations, then lay the pillows on a 50 mm square steel mesh tray and overlap the pillows at the edges, and proceed to cover them with a further framework of steel. The mesh tray will need to be fixed to the main floor using non-combustible fixings.
Maintenance and servicing of our fire pillows
Inspecting and maintaining fire pillows is essential to ensure their effectiveness in the event of a fire. FPC recommends regularly inspecting fire pillows at least once a year yourself or a member of FPC’s expert team. If you are performing inspections yourself, then documenting your maintenance activities will track the identification of potential issues and will follow fire codes and regulations.
FPC will provide guidance and instructions on how to properly maintain and service fire pillows, in addition to installation instructions, if they are required.
